SKZ2020 is the Japanese debut best album by South Korean boy group Stray Kids. It was released on March 18, 2020 with "Hellevator" serving as the title track.
Background[]
On December 3, 2019, after their Japan Showcase 2019 "Hi-STAY", Stray Kids announced that they would make their Japanese debut in March of 2020 with SKZ2020.[1]
"My Pace (Japanese ver.)", "Double Knot (Japanese ver.)" and "Levanter (Japanese ver.)" were released prior as digital singles on January 31, February 18 and March 9, 2020 respectively, as they are not included on the digital version of the album.
Composition[]
“ | From the title track "Hellevator" from their pre-debut album Mixtape released in January 2018 to "Levanter" released last December, 27 songs were carefully selected from all of their releases.
The title track of their first best album, "Hellevator" is a song that definitely imprinted the emergence of Stray Kids on the public with its powerful performance and intense sound. The 2020 version of "Hellevator" track 1 of SKZ2020, will re-introduce Stray Kids who have grown even more. Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, HAN, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N spared no effort in re-recording the existing songs in eight-person versions to enhance the album's quality. In addition, the tracklist is composed of songs written and composed by the team's production group 3RACHA, giving the group a distinctive color. Their exceptional songwriting skills have been a great compass for Stray Kids as they seek to find their identity through music. Their new album SKZ2020 features only the best of their career, reflecting on the direction they've taken and taking them to a wider world. Stray Kids made their official debut in Japan with the release of SKZ2020. "Levanter" "Double Knot" and "My Pace" were included in the Japanese version, marking the expansion of the "next generation K-pop representative group. The group's Japanese debut was highlighted by local media, including Sankei Sports, Nikkan Sports, Fuji Television, and Nippon Television. With this album, they will take their first step into the Japanese music market and further expand their influence. With the new album, SKZ2020 Stray Kids is expected to portray the group's past and present, and move forward to a brighter future with all of their classic songs that have fueled their global popularity. |

Achievements[]
SKZ2020 sold 31,444 copies in the first week on Oricon. In December 2022, it earned a Gold (500,000+ sales) certification from RIAJ.

Trivia[]
- The hi-touch and signing events for the release, scheduled for July 2020, were postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19's outbreak, but eventually happened in June 2024.[2]
