Cookin' like a chef I'm a 5 star Michelin

God's Menu (神메뉴 sinmenyu) is a song recorded by South Korean boy group Stray Kids. It is the second and title track from their first studio album GO LIVE.

Composition[]

The title track of Stray Kids' first full-length album is a spicy song with a double meaning: "God's Menu" and "New Menu". The song has a strong hip-hop track base and is characterized by its speed and bouncy raps. With fun onomatopoeia like "DU DU DU" and "tang tang tang-tang" and lyrics that everyone can sing along to before getting into the hook, it's a song where you can feel the raw, gritty feeling of Stray Kids and a new strength like never before.

Reviews[]

The best evidence that Stray Kids are one of the global leaders in fourth generation K-pop? “God's Menu,” the perfected vision of their noisy, explosive trap-pop. The song kicks off with a hard-as-hell verse from Changbin, who alongside Bang Chan and HAN make up the boy group's writing and production sub-unit 3RACHA. From there, the band's electric bravado is amplified by the best baritone in the biz, Felix, as he sings, “Cookin' like a chef/I'm a five-star Michelin” with the same heft as an Eighties goth-punk crooner. With “God's Menu,” Stray Kids take the bad-boy concept and set it aflame. —M.S.

Trivia[]

  • The point onomatopeia 탕 탕 탕 탕탕 tang tang tangtang imitates a gunshot sound, but is also the Korean word for "soup".
  • The song and its cooking metaphor established the phrase "music restaurant" and other derivative expressions (콘셉트 맛집 그룹 konsepteu matjip geurup in Korean) for media outlets to describe the group's concept.
  • Despite being one of the group's iconic songs, it never earned a music show win.
  • The music video features Mako, Rio, Maya, Ayaka, Rima and Miihi, members of Japanese girl group NiziU under JYP Entertainment.
